2016-17 A-Z MAPS ARE NOW AVAILABLE TO DOWNLOAD
There have been many changes on A-Z maps this year. Elephant & Castle and Aldgate are two of the main changes. There have been many more changes by Geographers' as well as reported changes by us. If you have not updated your A-Z maps for a few years, now is the time. A-Z maps update on our Cabbie's Mate devices come with 3 consecutive free POI updates. This map update is available for 4.3" non BT, 4.3" BT, 5" and the Android 7" units. These can be purchased from our website www.navigationmaster.com/_onlineStore.
iPhone and iPad Cabbie’s Mate App:
If you are on our iOS Subscription Cabbie's Mate App, the July POI update will come to your iPhone or iPad automatically immediately after release, through the App Store. If your device is set to download automatically, as soon as the update is released the device will download it. But if your device is not set to download automatically, when you open the Cabbie's Mate app it will say 'Updates are available', select 'Take me there'. Subscription customers are currently on 2016-17 A-Z maps.
iOS10 and iPhone 7 is coming in September, please be aware:
We will be starting to test during July and August, but we cannot 100% sure the Cabbie's Mate app will work with iOS10 until the official release.
If you are subscribed, please allow at least a month before updating the iOS. We will need to test the subscription based app, make changes and submit for approval before release. The approval period may be longer than usual at this time since all apps are queuing up for approval. When we release an update or fix, this will come to your device automatically if your device is enabled for auto update, it will also be downloaded. Android Cabbie’s Mate App:
Android Cabbie's Mate app will be updated to 2016-17 A-Z maps at the end of July when it becomes subscription based. It will function on Android operating systems as it does on iOS. Currently, Android Cabbie’s Mate app is not on subscription and has not been updated to 2016-17 maps. It will continue to use 2015-16 A-Z maps until the changeover to subscription. If you wish to have the latest 2016-17 maps, please wait for the release of the subscription app. Options and prices will be the same as iPhone/iPad Cabbie’s Mate app.
Please remember, although the functionality of both iOS and Android Cabbie's Mate app is same, it performs much better on iPhones and iPads.
A quick reminder: On all our devices, for better battery performance and trouble free use:
- Always keep the battery charged when device is not in use.
- Always connect car charger when device is in use in vehicle. Never let the battery go down below 20%.
- Always use original car charger supplied or use what we supply for your specific device. Always prefer car charger, rather than USB type charger. It has come to our attention that some cheap chargers are damaging the inside of the device USB socket.
- When inserting the car charger to the device USB socket, extreme care should be observed to make sure it is inserted the correct way.
- If you are bringing your device in for charging problem related repair, please bring your car charger that you have been using for inspection too, even if you think it is working correctly. Always check trouble shooting page before you bring your device in for repair. Most problems can be identified and fixed without bringing your device in for repair.
It is no longer viable to repair the early 4.3” devices. These units are now 7-8 years old and mostly uneconomical to be repaired. Even if it can be repaired, something else can go wrong within a short time period. The £50-£60 repair cost can pay for the Cabbie’s Mate A-Z iOS app for a couple of years so you can enjoy trouble free use. We still repair 5” and 7” devices. Please leave any repairs at JVBrights 47/51 Gt Suffolk St. SE1 0BS the taxi spare parts shop by the canteen.
We will collect, inspect, repair and return to JVBrights for your collection and notify you when the repair has been completed.

Advice on Phone or Tablet Preference for Cabbie’s Mate A-Z app
If you are going to purchase a device, our recommendation, based on our experience, would be an iOS device such as the iPhone 6S plus or the iPad. We are better placed to recommend our iOS App as there is only one manufacturer which is Apple and less versions of the operating system to work with. We know that our App works well on iOS. You will need to have a 3G (cellular) iPad for the app to work accurately; you will not need a 3G sim.
Unfortunately we cannot recommend a specific Android device as there are over 18,000 distinct Android devices on the market, device brands and models vary making it difficult for us to predict and recommend which devices and operating systems will be compatible with our app.

Support / repairs for Cabbie’s Mate units and apps
(very important announcement)
We have moved our support staff to City Point, Ropemaker Street. Due to restrictions placed on us by the building managers, we are not able to have visitors to the building. Therefore, there will NOT be face to face support. If you turn up without an appointment, YOU WILL NOT BE SEEN.
Consulting the trouble shooting and previously asked questions will almost certainly resolve your issue. Everything you need to know is on this document which will help you resolve any problems. Support will only be available online.
There is a drop off and collection point for repairs at JVBrights 47/51 Gt Suffolk St. SE1 0BS the taxi spare parts shop by the canteen.
We no longer perform updates as these can be done at home or at JVBrights. For a device inspection the set fee is £30 and for an operating system update the set fee is £20. Should your device require physical repair this amount will be included in the repair fee and will not be additional.
We have taken all necessary steps to provide updates and fixes for any software issue for our 5" and 7" devices online.

They will charge a small fee of £5 to perform a POI update. 7” users please be aware that you can update WITHOUT a PC as long as you have a Wi-Fi connection.
